In the News Today

Americans suck at civil disobedience

Bush is attending meetings in Ottawa, and the Canadians are out in full force in protest of his war mongering and shitty foreign policy. There are more people in California than there are in Canada, yet they managed to organize a protest involving more people than actually live in Ottawa.

Italy is pissed at their PM over proposed tax breaks which will only benefit the rich. (Sound familiar?) The Italian protest was so enormous and so well organized that public transportation was effectively shut down. This included more than 100 Alitalia flights.

The citizens of Ukraine are protesting a fixed national election. The "Opposition" has completely blocked parliament buildings, causing all out chaos in the government.
They said that they won't stop until the government admits that the election was fixed.

America used to protest like that. What the hell happened?

Well, there are a few possible reasons that spring to mind. None are more than guesses of course, so dont expect me to back any of them up with solid fact.

With my most bestest guess first, and worstest lastest.

1: People are just too lazy. They are happy to bitch and moan and winge about the crap that is going on, but when they have to go out in the cold and stand around and make a difference, the are just too lazy to bother. "Let someone else do it!"

2: People just dont care. They care enough to bitch about it, but not enough to actual go out and do something about it.

3: Peer pressure. Not all of someone's friends will take the same side, and maybe they just dont want to rock the boat.

4: Most of them actually secretly support Bush? I know maybe a handful of yanks that openly bash Bush and object to what he and his people do, but secretly admit to thinking it has to be done.

5: Homeland Security? Could people be scared of what it would mean to their freedom if HS decided to target them based upon their attendance at such events.

Whatever it is, I think that it would not really matter anyway. I doubt anything the public can do will shorten Bush's next 4 year term.

Find a way to make changes with Bush in power. Good luck with that.

I feel that Bush is being vilified too much. Was it easy to turn a blind eye to the atrocities committed on Afghan people by Taliban ? Though the same I cannot say for Iraq, but there is evidence that he was being a tyrant. Its a situation where whatever you do you are going to be condemned. US did build Japan and Germany in spite of decimating during the world war II. The world today is a more closely knit society than it was even a decade ago. 9/11 type things (bombings and suicide attacks) happen all the time in countries like India but don't get the requisite media attention in US. The Fundamentalists have hijacked the Muslim religion and you might be surprised to know that these people were once financed by the democrats to fight against the Russians. The women in these countries don't have even the basic rights. People from other religions are sidelined. If Bush could rebuild Iraq and Afghanistan into a modern society it will benefit the whole world. Otherwise they will continue to perpetuate hatred, if he fails I dare not even think of the consequences.

Ummm, I hardly ever hear anyone complain about us taking out the Taliban. "war mongering" was not coined for him because of Afgan, but because he had not even finished a legit war, and started a new one that even today no on in America can justify; except to say Saddam was evil.

Bush has been vilified because he needs to be, I can't see how any American with an IQ over 60 could have voted for this guy. I for one did not.
